What runs without cookies

We count page visits with Plausible Analytics. It sets no cookies, stores nothing on your device and does not identify you. It runs for every visitor, whatever you choose in the cookie banner.

One thing is kept in your browser's local storage: if you close the bar on the home page inviting you to join our weekly email, we remember that so we do not ask again. It never leaves your browser and is not used to recognise you.

HubSpot, only if you accept

HubSpot is the system we use to manage our own contacts. Every page loads HubSpot's script from its EU data centre, and that script shows HubSpot's cookie banner, which is how this site asks for your agreement. The banner lets you accept or decline, and to choose by category. Until you accept, HubSpot sets no tracking cookies. If you accept, HubSpot sets cookies so we can see which pages a contact has visited and follow up on enquiries more usefully.

• hubspotutk: recognises your browser across visits, kept for up to six months.
• __hstc: records when you first and last visited, kept for up to six months.
• __hssc: counts pages within one visit, kept for thirty minutes.
• __hssrc: notes when a new visit starts, deleted when you close the browser.

HubSpot's banner remembers your answer in cookies of its own, which hold your choice and nothing else:

• __hs_cookie_cat_pref: which kinds of cookies you accepted or declined, kept for up to six months.
• __hs_opt_out: that you declined, so the banner does not ask again, kept for up to six months.
• __hs_initial_opt_in: stops the banner showing again in the same visit after you accept, kept for seven days.

We do not use HubSpot, or anything else, for advertising.

When you leave your address

Signing up for the weekly email needs no cookies and works with scripting turned off. Your address is stored on the server that runs this site, and our server then passes it to HubSpot so we can manage the list in one place. If you have accepted HubSpot's cookies, HubSpot can link your earlier visits to that record. If you have not, it cannot.

Changing your choice

You can accept or decline at any time. The Cookies link at the foot of every page reopens HubSpot's cookie banner. Declining after accepting removes HubSpot's tracking cookies from this site and stops the tracking.
